Key facts

  • OpenAI doubled usage allowances for ChatGPT Pro 100, Pro 200, and Pro 500 subscribers on October 29, 2026, without raising prices.
  • OpenAI unified usage quotas for ChatGPT and Codex under Pro subscriptions, allowing both services to draw from the same allowance.
  • ChatGPT Work capabilities, previously separate, will be integrated into the standard Chat interface for Pro subscribers.
  • ChatGPT Work lets users give complex tasks to AI, such as document creation, research, file analysis and multi-step projects.

OpenAI has doubled usage allowances for subscribers of its ChatGPT Pro 100, Pro 200, and Pro 500 plans, effective Oct. 29, 2026, and prices are unchanged.

The company also called off a planned cut to Work and Codex allowances for its Pro 200 subscribers, effective Oct. 29, 2026, following customer feedback. The original plan would have cut usage for Pro 200’s Work and Codex so it equaled 10 times the Plus allowance rather than 20 times, starting Oct. 30, 2026. The plan also called for weekly GPT-6 Pro messages in chat to fall from 200 to 100 for Pro 200. The reversal covers Pro 200 subscribers whether they are new or existing.

OpenAI put the doubled limits into effect automatically for eligible accounts on Oct. 29, 2026, so subscribers did not need to take any action. The change covers Work and Codex usage limits for Pro subscriptions that are eligible. Sources: BleepingComputer, Ghacks Technology News, ProPakistani

Capabilities from ChatGPT Work, previously offered separately, are being brought into the standard Chat interface that Pro subscribers use. OpenAI plans to test a combined Chat and Work tab in the weeks ahead with a small group first, expanding to more people later. The staged rollout means users will not have to switch between Chat and Work modes. Sources: BleepingComputer

ChatGPT and Codex now share a single usage quota under Pro subscriptions, so both services draw from one allowance. Codex is OpenAI’s AI coding assistant for writing, reviewing, debugging, and modifying software, and it draws from that same pool. Work features such as multi-step projects, file analysis, research, and document creation become available inside the standard chat. The ChatGPT desktop app keeps Codex as a separate experience from the unified Chat and Work interface, and that separation applies only to the desktop version.

Subscribers on the Pro 500 plan can use Ultrafast processing with supported models such as GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol. Ultrafast hits 300 tokens per second in Codex, as much as eight times the standard speed, and burns through the included usage at eight times the standard rate. Ultrafast is not part of the Pro 100 or Pro 200 subscriptions. Sources: TNW, ProPakistani

Regular ChatGPT conversations still carry separate weekly GPT-6 Pro model limits for subscribers on the Pro 100 and Pro 500 plans. Pro 200 customers with lower weekly limits before are now raised to match the higher allowance, while those who already hold the higher allowance keep current limits instead of receiving another doubling. New customers can now sign up for OpenAI’s Pro 200 subscription at $200 per month since the planned usage cut was called off. Sources: Ghacks Technology News, TNW, ProPakistani

Subscribers to ChatGPT Business Premium also get higher Work and Codex usage allowances, though OpenAI has not published exact figures, and pricing for the tier stays the same. OpenAI confirmed that ChatGPT Plus usage limits are staying the same. OpenAI said it will not bring back Pro 200’s five-hour limit. Sources: ProPakistani, TNW [Citations: ProPakistani, S3]

Tibo announced the doubling and said OpenAI reversed course on the planned cut following customer feedback; he represents ChatGPT and Codex on X. “We are doubling all usage limits for all Pro 100/200/500 tiers and Business Premium, effective today,” Tibo said. There is no published figure to check the doubling against because OpenAI keeps exact numerical usage limits for each tier unpublished. Users should not expect twice as many tasks from a doubled allowance, since usage depends on the AI model, the complexity of the task, reasoning settings, and how much information is processed. Unlimited Instant comes with the Pro subscription and does not count toward the shared usage limit. Advanced models and complex tasks consume the shared allowance more heavily, with consumption varying by the work involved. The Settings > Usage page in ChatGPT shows combined remaining usage and reset times. Once the allowance runs out, users can wait for the reset, move to a higher subscription, or buy more usage credits for eligible Work and Codex features. Dots AI assistants keep separate usage allowances outside the doubled Work and Codex limits. Dots limits remain extended for now, though OpenAI has set no confirmed end date. The changes follow a month of pricing updates, including the lower API pricing for GPT-6.1 Terra. DevDay 2026 in San Francisco drew 2,500 developers. ChatGPT counts 1.2 billion weekly users, and more than 35 million people build with Work and Codex every week. Sunil Agrawal said, “OpenAI’s no-training commitment and ZDR give Glean confidence to build with OpenAI.” [Citations: Ghacks Technology News, S3]
