Key facts

  • The outage continued through the weekend.
  • On November 2, Abrigo said most Sageworks functionality had been restored apart from borrower-facing features.
  • The affected services were Online Portal Now and Sageworks Analyst, plus the Sageworks API.
  • BozokMedia states the Online Portal Now and certain API endpoints remain unavailable, and borrower-facing features stay offline too.

Abrigo disabled its Sageworks risk-management application at approximately 11:25 a.m. ET on Oct. 30, 2026, after identifying irregular activity in its environment. The company said it pulled the platform offline as a precaution while technical and security teams investigated. Abrigo described the shutdown as precautionary.

“We identified irregular activity in our environment, and, out of abundance of caution, we disabled the Sageworks application at approximately 11:25 am ET,” Abrigo said. By Nov. 2, 2026, Abrigo said most Sageworks functionality had been restored apart from borrower-facing features. Online Portal Now, Sageworks Analyst and the Sageworks API were among the affected services, and Online Portal Now along with certain API endpoints remained unavailable. Borrower-facing capabilities also stayed offline, and no data breach has been confirmed in relation to the current outage.

The company said it has not confirmed whether the event was a cybersecurity breach, unauthorized access, or a technical malfunction. It remains unclear whether the outage stemmed from a breach or a technical problem until the nature of the incident is disclosed. Abrigo began emergency maintenance and pulled Sageworks offline on Oct. 30, 2026, and the outage continued through the weekend. Weekend status updates showed the investigation was ongoing without disclosing details about the incident’s nature.

The company said it would release more findings after the investigation ends, and it has given no firm timeline for bringing the remaining capabilities back. Abrigo described the shutdown as precautionary and said it disabled Sageworks as a cautious measure while investigating suspicious activity. The platform assists lenders with loan application processing, borrower financial analysis, creditworthiness assessment, and loan portfolio monitoring. Sageworks deals with sensitive information such as banking customer details.

Abrigo provides cloud-based software and analytics to more than 2,400 credit unions and community banks across the United States. BozokMedia states that problems at Sageworks can spread to thousands of community banks and could put millions of borrowers at risk of delayed loan decisions and greater security threats. The outlet says thousands of financial institutions face operational and security challenges from the outage because Sageworks handles sensitive banking customer data. Many institutions temporarily moved to other risk-assessment tools.

BozokMedia states that problems at a widely used fintech platform such as Sageworks can spread to thousands of community banks.

Cybersecurity researchers recommended that banks and credit unions rotate Sageworks API keys as a precaution. Dr. Riya Sharma, a cybersecurity analyst, said “Fintech outages, especially those linked to suspected cyber activity, underscore the urgent need for layered security and real-time monitoring across banking ecosystems”. Banking ecosystems need real-time monitoring and layered security because suspected cyber activity lies behind fintech outages, according to Dr. Riya Sharma. Undercode News says banks increasingly rely on external cloud platforms, which lets attackers target technology providers instead of individual banks.

A successful breach of a widely used financial application could hit many organizations at the same time, the outlet said.

Earlier this year, a person allegedly tied to the ShinyHunters extortion group claimed to have carried out an attack on Abrigo, saying 1.7 million Salesforce records containing personally identifiable information and internal corporate data were taken. The actor said account data, employee details, phone numbers, email addresses and full names were part of the stolen material. The earlier ShinyHunters allegations were never verified as a confirmed data breach, and no publicly established evidence links them to the current outage; the connection remains unknown.

It remains unknown whether unauthorized access was detected. It is unknown whether customer or employee records were accessed. It is unknown whether data was stolen or exfiltrated. It is unknown whether ransomware or another form of malware played a role.

It is unknown whether affected systems were compromised through an external attack. It is unknown why borrower-facing capabilities remain unavailable. BleepingComputer said it contacted Abrigo for details but received no response before publication.
