Apple published support documents and posted a repair manual for the iPhone Duo on Oct. 23, 2026 on Apple’s support site, covering hinge troubleshooting, Touch ID functionality and case-related display adjustments for the foldable phone. The publication followed Apple’s standard practice for new iPhone introductions. Apple had set the device for release on Friday, Oct. 23.
The hinge troubleshooting document lists a unit that will not open or close fully, strange sounds while folding, a loose-feeling hinge, bent hardware, and outer shell damage as problems. Apple tells users to remove cases or screen protectors first, then check hinge security and look for trapped dirt or dust. The guide states that software cannot fix these hardware problems and that a technician will likely need to replace the inner display assembly if cleaning does not help.
The support documents affect iPhone Duo owners by explaining how to handle hinge problems and case-related display settings. The Mac Observer says checking for hinge problems early can help owners avoid a bigger repair bill.
After a user applies the iPhone Duo Case, the device shows a message offering an option to adjust screen size. Apple tells users to open Settings, tap Display & Brightness, and enable Shift Left Edge to move outer display content after they attach a case. The display menu includes a manual Shift Left Edge option that moves content away from a case so a case blocks nothing.
Apple’s support site carries the iPhone Duo Repair Manual, posted Oct. 23, 2026, under manual ID FPZKLK. It covers 22 procedures, from cover layer replacement to logic board swaps. Component replacements make up 20 of the 22 procedures; two cover first steps and operation of the heated display removal fixture.
The heated display removal fixture applies heat to loosen adhesive before separating the display from the enclosure. Component guides span displays and glass, cameras, power and boards, audio and haptics, and frame and buttons. Separate guides exist for Battery 1 and Battery 2 because the foldable splits capacity across two cells.
Apple charges $49 for the nano-texture cover layer repair without AppleCare+ and $999 for the inner display. Apple says repairs performed outside its service network lose product warranty and AppleCare coverage. Unauthorized repairs can also make the phone ineligible for future service from Apple.
Apple’s iPhone tool list names a heated display removal fixture, display press and battery press that use controlled heat and pressure on adhesive. Repair Assistant and System Configuration are post-repair software tools that move factory calibration values and bind biometric parts to the Secure Enclave. Apple requires System Configuration after every logic board repair.
The manual has 16 troubleshooting pages for display and multi-touch, camera, cellular, Touch ID, Taptic Engine and haptic feedback, and Apple Pencil Issues. The manual devotes a page to Hinge Issues, and owners have reported cracks in inner screens near the hinge.
At checkout in Apple’s Self Service Repair Store, buyers enter manual ID FPZKLK to confirm they have read the manual. Apple says it releases genuine parts soon after a product launches.
Popular Mechanics reports that the foldable iPhone Duo costs $2,000. The camera on the outer display provides 12 megapixels, while the inner under-display camera is just 4 megapixels, offers poor image quality, and handles mainly 1080p FaceTime calls.
Popular Mechanics picked Zagg Crystal Palace as the best iPhone Duo case, Spigen Ultra Hybrid Pro as best value, and Apple’s iPhone Duo Case as the best original case from Apple. The outlet also named dbrand Grip the most rugged case and the Apple iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand as its top folio case.
On Bloomberg’s Power On podcast, Mark Gurman said Apple already has iPhone Duo 2 prototypes that include an under-display Face ID sensor. He said Apple is weighing under-display Face ID among a few features for iPhone Duo 2 and iPhone Duo 3, and he expects Apple to resolve the move from Touch ID to Face ID by the first or second update.
Gurman speculated that Apple had trouble fitting Face ID sensors into the ultra-thin iPhone Duo, which is thinner than the iPhone Air from last year, and said that because consistency matters, Apple probably will not put Face ID on only the outer display. Apple reportedly continues to test under-display Face ID, though there is no guarantee it will arrive soon.
Reviews for the iPhone Duo are now available. Stan Schroeder called the iPhone Duo “most interesting iPhone since the first one.”
9To5Mac says Apple is expected to add more iPhone Duo support documents soon. The Mac Observer says checking for hinge problems early can help owners avoid a larger repair bill.
