Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple will unveil 14-inch and 16-inch touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro models on October 28, 2026. The event takes place in Los Angeles at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, according to Mashable and MacRumors. The company announced the “Pro and Tell” event on October 19, 2026, to introduce new Macs including the first touchscreen MacBook Pro. He said the launch will feature a virtual video event plus an in-person press element.
9to5Mac and Mashable report that Apple is ending a long-standing policy against touchscreens on laptops with its first MacBook that combines a touchscreen and an OLED display. The MacBook Pro marks its 20th anniversary in 2026, and the redesign is the first major overhaul since 2021. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman first reported in 2023 that Apple was exploring a touchscreen MacBook despite long-standing opposition to such laptops.
Macworld and MacRumors report that the new OLED touch models will be lighter, with a Dynamic Island replacing the notch, a hole-punch FaceTime camera, and a reinforced hinge. According to 9to5Mac, Macworld and Mashable, they will feature touchscreen OLED displays that replace the current mini-LED panels. Macworld reports that the panels use tandem OLED technology with two OLED layers and on-cell touch sensors integrated into the display.
9to5Mac, Macworld and MacRumors report that the redesigned OLED touch models will use M5 Pro and M5 Max chips instead of M6 Pro and M6 Max chips. Current M5 Pro and M5 Max 14-inch and 16-inch models remain in the lineup with unchanged designs and prices starting at $2,499 and $2,999. Apple also plans a standard 14-inch M6 MacBook Pro retaining the current design, likely priced at $1999 with 1TB storage and 16GB unified memory. The current high-end M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro models will shift to the middle of the lineup with no design changes, and prices for the existing high-end models are likely to remain the same.
According to 9to5Mac and MacRumors, pricing for the new OLED touch models could be up to $500 higher than existing mini-LED models starting at $2,499 and $2,999. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said the redesigned models will carry a much higher price than current models. 9to5Mac predicts the redesigned 14-inch OLED touch MacBook Pro at $2,999 and the 16-inch at $3,499, calling these figures guesses. The outlet also lists the MacBook Neo at $699 and the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air at $1,299 and $1,499 in its projected lineup.

9to5Mac speculates that 512GB storage could return to the base tier of the 14-inch M6 MacBook Pro. Apple restored 256GB to the base storage level for the Mac mini earlier in 2026 after a brief span when 256GB was no longer offered.
Gurman wrote, “Touching a button can also bring up a menu around the user’s finger.” Macworld reports that macOS 27 may automatically enlarge menus, buttons and controls for touch input and revert to the familiar layout with a mouse or trackpad. Macworld reports that the redesigned laptops are being tested with macOS 27.2.

Macworld reports that touch support remains exclusive to premium MacBook Pro models initially, with neither the MacBook Air nor the MacBook Neo expected to gain touchscreens soon. Ming-Chi Kuo believes Apple could expand touchscreens to other MacBooks if the touchscreen MacBook Pro succeeds, with the MacBook Air unlikely before 2028 or 2029. Some reports indicate the MacBook Air could adopt OLED display technology before 2028 or 2029 without touch functionality.
9to5Mac and Macworld report that Apple explored 5G connectivity for MacBooks using its C-series modem family, but little concrete evidence shows the upcoming touchscreen models will offer cellular. According to Macworld, Naver reported in January that Samsung began production on an 8.6-generation OLED line expected to supply panels for the next MacBook Pro.
In February 2026, Gurman said the redesigned MacBook Pro was set to ship during the latter part of 2026. He reported in April 2026 that supply-chain constraints could delay the release into early 2027 before the June 2026 roadmap revision kept it on schedule. In September 2026, he included the touchscreen MacBooks in a list of products expected to ship in late 2026 or early 2027.
On an October 1, 2026 podcast, he said a touchscreen MacBook announcement might arrive in October at the earliest or slip to November. Gurman then reported on October 8, 2026, that Apple aims to unveil its first touchscreen MacBook on October 27, with shipping starting November 6.
9to5Mac and MacRumors report that existing mini-LED MacBook Pro models remain in the lineup for now but will eventually be discontinued, with miniLED displays in production through 2028 per Omdia. According to Mashable, Apple may also unveil refreshed MacBook Pro and iMac models with the M6 chip at the October 28 event.
