Authorities arrested Edward Dubrovsky on October 8, 2026, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on federal cyber extortion charges. The indictment outlining the charges has not been made public. He faces charges of conspiring to threaten information confidentiality to extort money and interfering with commerce through threats. Edward Dubrovsky is a cybersecurity executive who works on ransomware negotiations and has ties to the Toronto‑based firm CyberSteward, having co‑founded the firm Cypfer.

According to the FBI, the ShinyHunters group has collected over $70 million in extortion payments and compromised more than 140 organizations. Authorities say this detention marks the third ShinyHunters‑related arrest in weeks, after earlier apprehensions in the Netherlands on September 15 and Jordan on September 28. Authorities transferred the case to the Eastern District of Texas, which they say is the hub of the FBI’s ShinyHunters probe.

Sources told Krebs that leaders of other companies that negotiate ransom payments might also be charged. Analysts say the detention signals that authorities may broaden focus from attackers to those who assist ransomware operations.

We will continue to work closely with our partners to disrupt what's left of the ShinyHunters group and their associates, no matter where they operate.
